2010 Family Beach Trip {Part 1}

Every year {since I can remember}, my mom has taken us to the beach. This hasn't changed even in the years since getting married and having babies! Mom is so sweet to spoil us each year with this trip and help us make some of my most favorite memories!! This July we went back to Santa Rosa Beach!
**There was NO OIL on the beach! Lots of oil workers walking around picking up garbage but no oil! What a great surprise!**

The beach was HOT! Good thing for the chairs and umbrellas! Grant always found a cozy spot on the footrest & loved sleeping to the sounds of the ocean! The big kids dug countless holes and "road" many waves! Hudson & I made a sand Sea Turtle; Uncle Mike quickly challenged us making a giant Octopus!

The pool did wind up being our favorite spot - our condo was 4 steps from the pool deck which made it easy to send the kiddos out to play while we got lunch/dinner ready or just rested!

Kevin and I even got a "date night" this year! Mom and future babysitter Mallory kept Harper, Hudson & Grant! Kevin and I headed to Alys Beach & ate at George's - YUM-O!!! The seafood quesadilla will have me going back - but on as a side note - it.is.HUGE!

Grant's first experience in the sand was MUCH different than Hudson's! Hudson wouldn't put his feet down anywhere close to the sand; we put Grant down in it & he immediately started playing and getting it EVERYWHERE!

This year - Kevin and I rented bikes and a buggy for the boys! He got the "pleasure" of pulling the buggy! We had a early morning bike with breakfast in Seaside! Total miles biked = over 15!!! Pretty crazy! I think we'll definitely do it again next year - maybe we'll rent for the whole week!!

NO - not for us - we are "unofficially" done having kiddos but Sister is due in 3-4 weeks!! I really ~~want~~ think it's a girl -- and I would love to have a little girlie to spoil then hand back to her mommy! :-) Not to mention, not having to deal with all those teenage hormones!

But in all of my hopefulness -- I just couldn't resist purchasing these....

Hopefully next summer, we'll have a little girl ~~running~~ crawling around the beach & pool in them!

Hudson's 1st Dentist Appt

Hudson had his first visit with the Dentist this morning! We have a book {The Berenstain Bears - love it - I used to read them when I was little!} that we have been reading. Hudson couldn't really understand why we were going to the Dentist though - in the book Brother Bear has a cavity & Sister Bear has a loose tooth! He's been walking around the house for a few days trying to "wiggle" his teeth loose! HA!

We talked it up last night & all morning! He was a little skeptical but walked in proudly and shook the hands of both the Tech & Dr!!

He was so wonderful! He got to pick out a new toothbrush & use it to brush his teeth. He opened wide for Dr Taylor & got to pick out a new toy {a motorcycle} and sticker {Dora & Boots}!

After, I took him for his favorite meal - a quesadilla & cheese dip from Willy's!!

Wow! I can't believe our baby is 6 months old already!

Just a few stats:

- 16 pounds, 8 ounces

- 26.25 inches

EATING: Four 8 oz bottles {8 am, noon, 4 pm, 7ish} + 2 helpings of veggies and/or fruit
FAVORITE FOODS: Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, Sweet Peas, Apples, Pears
Loves eating a "real" banana & has even sampled Watermelon!
SLEEPING: ~ 11-12 hours at night, 2 hours twice during the day {if we're not running errands & such} + a catnap b/t 4 pm feed and 7 feed
He is officially un-swaddled & sleeping on his side & stomach!!
{the un-swaddling process went much smoother than with Hudson}
ROLLING: he's rolling front-to-back & back-to-front
SITTING: we're working on it; he's got the tri-pod action down great, but he needs to get much better - he's getting too heavy for the bucket these days & Mommy needs him to be able to "sit" in the buggy!
TEETHING: no teeth yet but he's chewing on everything & drooling everywhere

Our Sweet Beasley

I don't even know where to begin.

Before Kevin and I left for my birthday trip, I noticed Beasley slow to get up from the laying position. I was so caught up with leaving town & making sure everyone was taken care of that I wrote it off to him being sleepy or possible arthritis.

When Kevin and I returned, Bill {Kevin's Dad} mentioned Beasley was not acting himself. At this point, he wasn't even going up stairs. You should know, Beasley follows us everywhere -- he loves to be around us -- where we go, he follows shortly after.

He was due for his annual check-up, so I scheduled it for June 22. They looked him over, took his blood & did the general doggy check-up. Due to his previous injury on his back left leg, we all decided his "slowness" was due to arthritis. He is not an old dog, but Goldens, especially with injuries, are prone to arthritis.

Two days later, June 24, he struggled to get in the crouching position to "take care of business." I began to cry and knew something was wrong. I immediately called the Vet for another appointment. Since his blood work came back 'perfect,' the Vet took x-rays to rule out hip displaysia or something wrong with the plate in his leg. The x-rays were clear, so he thought his healthy leg may have a tendon tear due to weight over-compensation of the injured leg.

Next steps:

Take him to Georgia Veterinary Specialists or Auburn. Since we'd been to Auburn for his previous surgeries & were going down for the 4th, we made an appointment with the Orthopedic Surgeon.

I arrived at the AU Vet School on June 30; paperwork, x-rays, Hudson & Beasley in tow. Dr. Montgomery took a look at the x-rays and went to the Radiologist for a consult. He came back & told me their thoughts:

**It could be severe arthritis - but most likely not**

Due to fluid around the rear spine, it could be:

1) Bladder Infection - 50/50 chance

2) Tumor

WHAT! A Tumor! But he is only 7 years old! SEVEN!

We opted for them to keep him & run a urinalysis for the possible Bladder Infection; they also scheduled an ultrasound to check out his Lymph Nodes. If his Lymph Nodes were enlarged, they would pull fluid from them & his prostate, where they concluded the tumor was originating.

Thursday, July 1:

I receive a call from the 4th Yr student, Mary Martin, assigned to our case. His urinalysis is clear - which means -

The mineralizations found in his prostate and "bad fluid" {I can't remember the term they used} in his Lymph Nodes points to Cancer.

New Next Steps:

I scheduled an appointment on Tuesday, July 5 to meet with the Oncologist. Kevin stayed with me, & we saw Dr. Sones. They can't get to the specifics of where everything is originating but it is a Tumor, no doubt.

Our Options:
1) Treat Cancer with Radiation & Chemo

2) Not Treat the Cancer -- Opt for Pain Management Only

*Side Note: Our very close friends literally went through this 2 weeks prior to our 1st Vet appt. Their Golden, Abby, was treated for her original tumor only to have 3 more tumors appear 3 months later. They spent quite a bit of money for only 8 more months. We spoke with them over the weekend, and they mentioned the toil of the treatment wore on Abby and them. Knowing what they know now, their decision might not have been the same.*

Goldens have a 60% chance of dying from Cancer -- TWICE that of every other breed -- but still have a life span of 12-15 years. Prostate cancer is more common in neutered males & is one of the worst kinds of cancer.

With Option #1:

1-2 weeks of chemo & radiation

6 months {OR LESS} lifespan, yes, only 6 months

With Option #2:

Pain Management

New Anti-Inflammatory shown to reduce tumors for added lifespan

Couple of weeks-1 month lifespan

The first couple of days - while waiting to start the new anti-inflammatory - were so incredibly sad. We were hand-feeding Beasley, & he could barely walk. Kevin was carrying him up the stairs at night, so he could still sleep by us.

However, he's now on the new drug & it seems to be doing wonders; he is getting around so much better and eating by himself! Although, we have a beach trip coming up the last week of July. He does look much better, but I am terrified of something happening while we're out of town. I keep praying God will show us when the time is right, keep him healthy through July, and keep him as free of pain as possible.

We so love our Beasley. We got him 2 months after getting married. He's been there with us from the beginning. He had such a wonderful weekend July 4th at the Lake. He swam & swam until he could barely carry the toy up the stairs. But he continued to wag his tail with excitement!

When I think about letting him go, my heart goes to those 2 sweet boys sleeping upstairs. They will never really know what a wonderful soul Beasley is. He is gentle, happy, loving, energetic {when he wants to be} and empathetic. I am so glad I took {and take} lots of pictures of Beasley with them.

I ask for prayers for Beasley and our family. This will be the hardest thing as a couple {next to fertility treatments} we've been through.

July 4th

We spent 4th of July at Lake Martin this year. We had the pleasure of spending it with my "in-laws!" I say in-laws but when I explain the situation, people think I've lost my mind. My sister's mother & father-in-law have a lake house. Kevin has known Mike, my brother-in-law, since 1991 - before me OR Cara were a glimmer in either fella's eye! Therefore, Jim & Jeanne are like parents to both of us!

Cara, Mike & Harper had already left, but Jim, Jeanne, Brian, Melissa, Maggie & Kailey were all still in attendance. {FYI...Melissa is Mike's sister.} It was so fun to be around 2 of the sweetest little girls all weekend!

Vacation doesn't get much better than hanging at the lake, eating some yummy food & watching 3 little kiddos scream in excitement at even the smallest of fireworks!

My 30th Birthday!!!

**Warning: LONG POST**

After MUCH, much deliberation...Kevin and I decided to actually use our "lottery" tickets to the US Open at Pebble Beach! I mean, I only turn 30 once, right?!

I dropped Hudson off with Mimi on Tuesday. Grandma D arrived late Tuesday night for her duties to begin on Wednesday. Grandpa D & Omi arrived Friday night to finish out the babysitting duties with Grant & Hudson until Monday night.

We flew out to San Francisco on Wednesday, the 16th {my bday}. We arrived and headed to the rental car desk. Now, some history -- Kevin has not had the best luck on his business trips with rental cars, so he ends up talking with the VP at this lovely company & she hooks us up with a deal on a convertible. B/c if I'm going to Cali, I'm putting the top down! Bad sign #1::his name is not on the "preferred customer list" when we walk in. Bad sign #2::after standing in the face of not 1, not 2, but THREE workers, Kevin finally waves his arms & says, "Any help here?" Bad sign #3::manager comes out & tells us for the FOURTH, yes 4th, time that there are NO convertibles available! HUH?? Kevin all but demands the CEO of said company, and somehow they "find" a convertible for us.

Now, on to Hwy 1! Soooo very beautiful! It was a little chilly, but the top went down & the camera came out! I loved every minute of it!

We stopped at the Ritz-Carlton at Half Moon Bay - GORGEOUS! Just wish I had the $600/night to stay there! The food was fantastic, of course, and the view was even better!

We arrived in Carmel/Monterey Bay in the late afternoon. Carmel was angelic and classic. Other than being a little too cold for me -- all year long -- it was the most quaint town I've ever seen. Since we didn't make it to the practice rounds, we don't have any pictures of golf - but believe me - Tiger is bigger than I thought, Phil Mickelson is even more handsome in person & {the winner} Graeme McDowell is a Q-TIE!!

While in Carmel, we visited 'Anton & Michel' restaurant. It is owned by our neighbor's cousin. If you go to Carmel - EAT HERE & ask for Bert!! We got to meet Tony, his wife - Marie, son - Anton, Anton's girlfriend, and Marie's sister & brother-in-law. {Come to find out -- the in-laws are in town from Ireland to see their buddy, GRAEME! As in, winner of the Open. Um, that information would've been helpful before we left town.}

Friday late, we headed back to San Fran for the weekend. Saturday, the weather in Napa was going to be fantastic, so we headed over The Bridge & into Napa.

Either the rednecks follow us or we follow them?!?!? The Nascar race just happened to be in Sonoma that weekend.

We really had no clue where to go; Mondavi was close & familiar so we ventured in. It was really pretty but definitely glad it was first - each got better & better as the day went on.

After lunch at Rutherford Grill {aka Houston's headquarters}, we headed with our "new friends" to Winery #2: Rubicon Estate Winery

Rubicon is owned by Francis Ford Coppola - and he actually lives in the back of the chateau! It was the most amazing piece of land! Just a dream!

At lunch, we met a really wonderful couple, Bill & Ann. Bill was quite an interesting fella - many a story to tell!! I wish I had the strength to write them all out -- corner me at a party & I'll tell you all about it. This was totally out of our comfort zone & not something that happens to us...meeting 2 random people, having them take us to 5 wineries, "fear" for our lives {HA}, not pay for a single wine tasting all day, then going back to their home!!!

Our week to host the "scool friends' playdate" happened to fall on Hudson's 1/2 Birthday. He had been asking when his birthday was & when he could have a party. Add to that Mommy's guilt from not having a party this year & we end up with a 1/2 Birthday celebration!

Yep - you read that correctly! I'm finally updating the blog & we're starting where we left off!!

MEMORIAL DAY at Lake Martin

We spent Memorial Day with some wonderful friends we haven't seen in quite a while, the Graves'. It was a pretty low-key weekend so they felt like they could bring the FOUR kiddos down for some swimming and "butts!" The Kelly's also joined us - Grammy & Granddaddy McKee made their famous "butts" - Linda & Joel Amos came - the neighbors even popped over!!

The water was still a little chilly & it rained off and on, but there was plenty of fishing to do and food to eat!!

First, I am a terrible blogger! Hopefully someone out there is still reading our little family blog! Maybe one of these days things won't be so crazy, and I can update more often with all of the fun things we've been doing {my peeps with 3 kiddos deserve some sort of daily award}!

For now, I hope you enjoy the update & some pictures of our little G-Funk! He is officially 4 months old! I was looking back at Hudson's pictures & they seem so much alike but yet, so different. It is all flying by too quickly! Check out these pics...

We made it to our 4 month check-up today. Here are the stats - 45th percentile for height, weight & head - quite the symmetrical babe:

24.5 inches

13 pounds, 8 ounces

{He's grown 4 inches and gained 5 pounds since birth}

He's eating every 4 hours {around 8, 12, 4, & 8}, 6 ounces {+ 1 T of rice cereal in the bottle}. I know, I know - no cereal in the bottle - it is mainly for his reflux. In the next couple of weeks, we'll be moving 1/2 of his cereal to spoon/bowl! Fun, Fun!!! As of Sunday, his is an all formula man. I really wanted to go longer but it's over - this has been one of my hardest adjustment so far. Don't know exactly why it hit me so hard, but I've finally come to terms with it.

G sleeps about 12 hours at night & is pretty much at 2 naps/day. Poor little thing - his morning nap is not always the greatest {taking Hudson to school/running errands} - but for the last couple of weeks, I have had BOTH boys asleep in the afternoon for at least 1-2 hours!! Woo Hoo!!! He also takes a 30 minute catnap around 6:30ish to make it to his last bottle.

Like Hudson, he still loves his swaddle! And I'm not budging - Hudson was in his until 7 or 8 months! If he's swaddled, he sleeps - and mommy & daddy are happy!! :-)

I know - I've barely been blogging about those precious boys of mine, and now I'm only finding time to talk about my Mommy Favorites! Oh, the insanity! My friend April inspired me to finally finish this post! I can barely stand myself - Spring is here and it makes me HAPPY, so I'm going to share!

Bella Terra Exfoliating Gel - {disclaimer: I DID NOT pay that much for it!! You all know I'm too frugal!} I'm even considering starting to use their mineral foundation. And I L-O-V-E my bare minerals, but their foundation actually does feel better AND it doesn't need a mineral veil over it! Hmmm...I'll let you know!

Picasa - since I am "frugal," I, of course, like free! But I love my pictures. I found the free download of Picasa {from Google} and love it! Since I take so many pictures, the editing of them can get crazy out of control! {With the amount of time I spend editing, sometimes I can feel Kevin cringe when I whip out the camera & computer.} I have a fear that any other software might keep me from eating or sleeping!

And since I do love eating!!! It has been hard giving up my goodies to get this baby weight off! I'm trying to stay on track with all the awesome Special K eats! My favorites are the Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein bars, Vanilla Cereal bars & my new fave, Strawberry Fruit Crisps {but I can't find them ANYWHERE for the last 3 weeks in Atlanta - Argh!}

To go along with the Special K eats, 'sweet' Julian has been motivating me {as in Julian Michaels from Biggest Loser}! Not necessarily a "favorite thing" but it is definitely helping to get me moving to enjoy everything else! I broke out the 30 day Shred DVD about 5 weeks ago - I started out strong {6 days/week} but have slacked to about 4 days/week. I've been taking pictures each week but don't expect to see anything, any time soon! {Maybe by my 30th bday in June - I'll feel good enough to show the metemorphosis}!! I have noticed a difference but I've still got many inches to go!

:: the first of many ::

This IS the first big urgent care trip, but I'm sure it won't be the last with 2 little boys!

{For my records really}...We had to eat dinner "outside" last night. Hudson wanted to eat dinner in the garage where Daddy's car is supposed to be {Daddy was out of town}. So I set up a little table and our beach chairs - I skipped the tablecloth and candles - as we listened to the workers replacing our neighbors roof! Just lovely. We devoured our dinners as Hudson had a big day at school, play time on the playground after school, NO NAP, running in the backyard for the afternoon - we were both starving! I began cleaning up while Hudson played.
He came in to tell me his finger hurt - but no tears, no big bangs heard. I finished then got ready to give Grant a bath. Hudson wanted to help - like always - so I put some soap in his little hand. He started rubbing his hands together and SOBBING! Screaming his finger hurt. I finished with Grant and started poking around on his hand. I could tell exactly where it hurt, due to his face, and the fact that he kept saying - "Mommy, it hurts, it hurts!" Oh, it just broke my heart.
Good thing we have 2 pediatricians in our neighborhood - one just had twins, so I called the other! She looked at it & thought because of the swelling, I should take him in, so she called us in to Children's Hospital Urgent Care. We arrive - Hudson crying {more b/c he didn't want to go to the doctor}, Grant screaming {b/c he's now starving}, and a Mommy looking just lovely from a very hot, outside day! Meanwhile, Daddy is in the air - no clue what is going on!
The hardest two parts of all 1) was trying to explain to the nurses and doctor that I, the mommy, had NO clue how this happened and 2) I couldn't stand with Hudson during the x-rays b/c I was holding Grant. He did so well though & followed directions so the tech was done very quickly.

The Drama :: telling a little boy who won't even wear a Spiderman band-aid, that he needs to wear a splint on his finger with {gasp} tape!

The Result :: No broken bones, possibly just a sprain.

I did finally get something out of Hudson - acting as though he is falling, he said he went "Whoa, whoa, Kaboom!" I guess I'll never really know!

12 weeks...

84 days...2,016 hours..old!

It seems like yesterday, but looking back, I barely remember life without him! He is such a sweetie - until he gets hungry! When he's ready to eat, he.is.ready.to.eat!

Last week - 11 weeks old - he weighed 12 lb, 8 oz!! Chunky.Monkey!

He's sleeping 10-12 hours at night {finally} and naps off and on during the day. I would LOVE to have him on a better "day" schedule, but such is the life of kiddo #2.

He loves watching his brother - he eats ~ 6 oz, 4x/day - he spits up A LOT - he kicks and smiles on the bouncer - he's starting to love bath time - he has the biggest, brightest smile - he likes to growl & have you growl back at him!

I can't believe Husband and I have been married for SEVEN years! At times, it seems like yesterday and at others, it seems amazing that we have been in our house for seven years, that sweet Beasley is seven, and that we have been blessed with TWO beautiful, perfect, healthy children!

Grandpa and Omi came over last night to babysit our little men...I don't know who was more tired at the end of the night - Hudson & Grant or Grandpa & Omi!! They had such fun together. Kevin and I kept things casual and simple this year - we headed to PURE Taqueria for some crab fritters, tacos and margaritas! {Kevin and I have a dream to open one of these in downtown Opelika one day! Anyone want to do some "investing" - give us a call!} Since we were stuffed, Kevin had a special request - to go to "Golfer's Heaven!" I gave Kevin a new Driver {ps...I didn't pay that price for it! Ha!} as his gift! He wanted to see all that was out there, so we decided to hit with a few others! I think going to the PGA Store was an even better gift than the actual Driver. He had so much fun! And I was pretty impressed by the store too! After our trip, we indulged in THE best dessert - Krispy Kreme! Enough said!

Hudson is always ready to help Mommy with anything Grant! So much that I have to watch out for random "I can pick him up" or "I can burp him" comments/actions b/c they may actually be happening! It makes me so incredibly happy that Hudson loves his little brother so much!

Hudson has been constantly asking "can Grant crawl yet?" I keep telling him once Grant starts crawling, he'll be grabbing for his toys! Hudson's response, "Yea, then I can show him how to play with them?" Oh, it simply warms my heart - hopefully it was go accordingly once crawling actually starts!!

We ventured down to the Loveliest Village on Saturday for

1) Grant's first official Auburn visit and

2) An Auburn Baseball game.

It wasn't just any Auburn Baseball game. They were inducting a few decent players to the Wall of Fame! Who does that include you ask? Only Bo Jackson, Gregg Olsen, Frank Thomas & Tim Hudson. It was also Frank Thomas' first trip back to Auburn. Can you believe his kiddos have NEVER seen Auburn? WHAT? We kept saying the trip was for the Little Boys but I'm pretty sure my Big Boy was the most enthrauled.

Just wish I hadn't been so sick...we left early & missed our ~~Kevin's~~ chance to get autographs & pics with all the guys {our friend, Tim, did though - big bummer}!!! We arrived at Auburn Urgent Care with 5 minutes to spare where they gave me the wonderful news that I had a Sinus Infection! BOOOOO! It was still a ~~somewhat~~ successful trip!

One Month Old

I just can't believe it has already been a month! I feel like we just left the hospital. It really has been a big blur in some ways. I mean, with #2, life has to go on - and, boy, has it!

Grant had his big dr's appt on Thursday! He weighed 9 lb, 7 oz and is 21 1/4 inches long...both 50th percentile! I looked up Hudson-man's stats at 1 month & he weighed 9 lb, 9 oz and was exactly 21 1/4 inches long! It is crazy how close in stats they are!

The little man is eating every 3 or so hours during the day & waking once during the night - between 4 & 5 am. He's been alittle cranky lately but we've been adjusting {lowering} the amount we feed him and getting back to the swaddle, and he seems to be better.

I do miss that I can't always snuggle whenever I want, as I did with Hudson but it makes me appreciate those times even more! Just look at how sweet and similar my boys look!!!

Just a quick post before I get some much needed rest tonight! On Sunday, we took our Big Man to his very first Circus. We got a great deal on some tix through Kevin's work - so off we went! Just the 3 of us - Mommy, Daddy & Hudson. Grandma D came over to watch Grant so we could have our special time with Hudson. As always, he just took it all in - I didn't think he liked it all that much. But he has talked about it all week & asked when we can go back, so I guess it was a success.

{The only downside - Hudson didn't get any cotton candy - it was $12 - yes TWELVE DOLLARS!!! We settled for a pretzel & water - to share - for $9!}

It Snowed!

I must say - the snow is beautiful. All 3.5 inches!! Last March's snow was nothing compared to this. It was so wonderful waking up to a sunny, white winter wonderland. Hudson has been so excited! He has been asking, "When is it going to snow A LOT, Mommy?" for the longest time. I kept telling him to talk to God about it! :-) Well, God finally answered the little man's prayers! I also can't believe it has snowed every year of Hudson-man's short life! I haven't seen this much snow in my entire life! He's a Lucky Little Man!

I've never been a fan of Valentine's Day; however, having a little one changes things! Hudson loves his friends, esp. Olivia, and he loves school! Naturally, my sweet-hearted little man has really enjoyed this past week of school!

The kiddos enjoyed their class party on Tuesday by painting hearts and eating giant heart-shaped brownies covered in icing {every kiddos dream}!

On Thursday, they traded Valentines! I'm always looking for something creative for the class & have seen directions for "homemade" crayons in a few places. Once I saw the heart-shaped silicone molds in Target, I knew we had to make them! It was such fun making them since Hudson was able to help...it may be our new tradition!

Almost nightly, we enjoy a game of "football!" Since there is ~~supposed to be~~ no throwing in the house, we play "kick-off" and "hike/tackle!" Hudson L-O-V-E-S it and it also helps Mommy and Daddy stay in shape!

This week Daddy decided to spice things up a bit...Shirts vs. Skins! Hudson must now wear his shirt like this whenever we play! Wonder how long this will last?

BTW...sweet Grant has been sleeping through all of the screaming & yelling & running & tackling! Guess #2 gets broken in pretty quickly!

One Week Old

Grant is One Week Old! I can't believe it! Every new parent says it, but I feel like he's been a part of our family forever. Even Hudson acts like he's been here a while. He's such a wonderful big brother!

It has definitely been an adjustment - and having to re-learn all those new baby things hasn't been as easy as I thought. Kevin and I sure forgot a lot! But the key to Grant - FEED HIM! He is awake like clockwork every 3 hours. He even slept from midnight to 8 am Tuesday night! What!?!? But - with his jaundice, the docs want us to wake him at least every 4 to get him as much food possible to get rid of the bilirubin.

He is very alert and takes everything in! He is even upping the amount of milk he takes in from 2 to 3 oz! He weighed 8 lb 8 oz at birth; 7 lb 15 oz when we left the hospital; 8 lb 2 oz on Monday, 25th; 8 lb 4 oz today, 28th!

Grant William DeLine arrived, Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 2:35 pm!! Mommy and Daddy are re-learning this baby thing and getting better each day! Hudson loves being a big brother so far. He's quite sweet...he loves giving him his paci, giving kisses and holding him!

Big Brother's first look!

The 39 week Appointment! And boy, I sure am glad Doc Marcus does a routine ultrasound!! All looked well...amniotic fluid, heart, lungs, etc - then the "big" question...how much does he weigh? Drum roll please....9 lb, 1 oz! WHAT! 9 lb, 1 oz!! I don't think so! And the kicker...90th percentile head! Um, Hudson's was 25th!

So you ask..."what's next?" With only 19 pounds gained, Doc M just can't believe it so he calls in a favor to his perinatologist friend at Northside Hospital. Two hours later...more drum rolls....8 lb 15 oz! Oh, wow...thanks! You've given me a whole 2 oz!

The bad news...Doc M isn't on call until early next week! Well, I'm sure not waiting around for the babe to gain another 1/2 lb to a lb! But the Doc on call, Dr Anand, is apparently a super fabulous lady {from friends with experience} - and bonus - my 2 nurse friends are working tomorrow too!

And without further ado...we'll be heading in Wednesday, January 20th at 6:30 am to greet Baby Grant!!! I am most looking forward to seeing his little face {which already looks like Hudson} and seeing Hudson with his new brother!

Well, not so much a Blizzard but when you live in the south...record low temps for over a week and a dusting of snow will send almost everyone into a frenzy!

Our 1/8 inch of snow was fun enough for Hudson to play in - unfortunately, he wasn't able to make a snowman like he so wanted!

We started with a trip to see Santa! He actually sat by Santa {with Daddy} and gave him "knuckles!" He was super pumped about the candy cane Santa gave him too!

Next we stopped for a quick birthday treat...an M&M Chocolate Chip Cookie!!

{Glad we stopped for the cookie} Because the line for the Pink Pig was a little long which kept sweet man occupied!

The "peanut place" for lunch! That would be Five Guys Burgers...yummy!!!

After a nap...the big surprise of the day...a trip to the "Big Boy Movie" to see Planet 51! Every time he sees the commercial for it, which happens to be on a Tivo'd show, he says, "I go see that!" Glad the movie has been out for a while and it was a matinee - we had the whole place {-2} to ourselves! I wasn't sure how it would go, but Hudson-man was awesome -- other than moving to every seat on our row! {I seem to have lost my ever so cute picture of him in the movie with his popcorn!}

HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY {on the 15th} TO OUR HUDSON-MAN!!!

We can't believe he's three already! Mommy was almost in a frenzy over where to have a party for the little man and couldn't decide...so...we opted for a Mommy/Daddy day! Surely, I imagined, he would forever hate me for not having a "big" party on his last birthday as an "only child!"

Looking back, I'm pretty sure this kiddo had one terrific birthday...that, by the way, started on Monday and will continue this weekend!

as i sit here...feet propped up due to the Braxton Hicks doozies at only 34 weeks...i'm checking out our house...looking quite MERRY and I LOVE IT! we have 5 trees this year {3 in...2 out}. husband says we're the 'griswold's of Christmas trees!' but it makes me happy!

one may notice an extra stocking...we figured sweet Grant is arriving soon enough & Santa may have a few things for him

Hudson was so sweet this year...he absolutely loved decorating the tree & was so gentle helping to put the ornaments on! he's been quite aware of "Skywalker," our elf, and Santa isn't quite as scary as he has been {although we'll see about that come Monday}!

Not to mention the "supposed" tatoo she has now!

Santa's Little Helper showed up at our house after Thanksgiving! He's been quite mischevious but well-behaved! Hudson loves to see where he's hiding each morning and asks what he's told Santa that night!! So far...Santa is probably getting good reports - let's hope this lasts until the 24th!

Hudson even follows the "no touching" rule - so he often brings "Auburn Santa" over to be with our Elf during the day! So sweet!

Oh, yea...this year, Hudson decided to change/pick our Elf's name...and he chose... SKYWALKER!

Yes, like in Star Wars {a new favorite fun-Daddy-time show} but it is actually quite creative and fitting - I mean, he does "walk" through the "sky" to see Santa each night!

SPIDEY to the Rescue!!

Auburn's game against Ole Miss was Halloween which meant we would be there...not in Atlanta to Trick-or-Treat...Opelika & Auburn had their "Halloween" on Thursday...so what does any good, dedicated parent do in such a quandary? Have Daddy take Friday off and head to Opelika in time for Trick-or-Treating Thursday night!!

How could I deprive my very own Spiderman of the first Trick-or-Treating that he might actually remember!?!

Mallory was such a trooper and let Hudson follow her & her friends around. He finally caught on and would run up to the doors, only to hold his bucket up, receive his candy and return to Mommy & Daddy...his only words..."Time to go to next house!"

Long Time No Blog, Eh

So, I can't believe it's been almost a month since I've blogged...not for lack of things to post...just the opposite! Where to begin...I won't even try to recount most of October, so I'll just start with our most recent family fun!

Oh, where to go...it seems all the pumpkin patches "around" Atlanta are 1 hr+ away. Husband and I just weren't up for driving 2+ hours to spend 30 minutes picking out a mediocre, overpriced pumpkin. So, to google I went! I found Kinsey Family Farm!!! If you are in the Atlanta area, this is the place to go. It was so quiet and quiant...and not overpriced. They had lots of pumpkins to choose from and beautiful scenery! Hudson is quick to pick out a pumpkin, so what did we do next, you ask?

We ate some yummy fresh picked apples and caramel and bought tickets for the Apple Cannon {3 apples/$1}, Hayride tickets {$2 ea - 2 & under, free} and even swang for some food to feed the catfish {3 cups/$1}. The only regret...wishing we bought more fish food! Hudson loved it and the catfish were HUGE!!

We had so much fun, we might be venturing back at Christmas. The beautiful trees growing now are available to cut plus they truck in NC Frasier Firs! The Hayrides and Apple Cider are free and they promise the trees will stay fresh much longer than our usual "Home Depot special!"

Bonus: it is all run by the Kinsey Family. They were super nice. It was laid-back with not chaotic.

Double Bonus: it is about 15 minutes from the N Ga Outlet Mall! After a quick bite at Five Guys {YUM}, we headed over to do a little shopping! :-)

Saturday...Hudson woke up with an ear infection. Saturday...there was a football game our little man was DYING to go to. Saturday...it rained...again!

Saturday...the worst parents of the year took that Little Man to the rainy football game!! AND...he was the best, most excited, sweetest little boy in the stadium! Who made it the entire game without once asking to go home! After the game, he was even ready to tailgate {don't worry...we didn't}!

Exactly!!! It took Mommy a while to figure that one out. Conclusion: Hudson seemed quite concerned when he realized Grant didn't have any animals like him. At first, he offered a few of his own {how sweet} but Mommy talked him into picking out an animal just for Grant from his Big Brother!

So, while out and about, we stopped by Carter's. Hudson toiled & toiled over what to pick...the monkey or the giraffe...I think he made a good choice!!

This kiddo has one of the biggest hearts, and he seems to get sweeter each day {minus the moments when he's driving me completely crazy}! But I will say, those completely insane moments are quickly followed by a big hug and an "I'm Sorry."

Yes...we have a name. For those who don't know/remember, sweet Hudson didn't have a name until Noon the day we left the hospital! So, I was bound and determined to have a name for DIP #2 before the hospital. And we've done it in record time...20 weeks!!

Without further ado...drum roll please...

GRANT WILLIAM

And he shall be called, Grant!

*BTW...all went very well at our 20 week ultrasound. Grant is growing and roughly 12 oz...50th percentile! In Kevin's words, "We sure know how to make 'em average!" {Hudson is a consistent 50th percentile for height & weight all 2 1/2 yrs.} For me, I'll take mine average...healthy & average!

First Day of Preschool

Even though Hudson has been in a MMO program the past two years, this year just seems different. It's Preschool!! They have a schedule and curriculum which seems so "big kid" to me. He's also going 3 days a week...mommy is having a hard time with that one, but I know when Little Bit comes along in Jan, I'll be very grateful. We L-O-V-E his teachers...Ms. Pam & Ms. Kelli. Ms Pam was his teacher at the end of last year and we were so excited to have her again. She is so loving and patient.

The big surprise of the day...Hudson didn't have a potty accident! He went to "camp" for 2 weeks this summer {3 days/week} and didn't have an accident, but I was uneasy about today. I don't know why I doubt this Little Man...he's such a wonderful, happy, easy-going kiddo. I couldn't ask for a bigger blessing!

Today was the day. The day my sweet little man got his Big Boy Room! I was quite excited about the whole thing. No reason. He wasn't climbing out. He was sleeping fine. It was just time. Plus, we've decided to use his crib {well, refinish it} for Little Bit #2 so before the whirlwind of Fall, Holidays, and Birthdays come and go, we thought we should go ahead with the transition now.

BEFORE

I hyped it up all week to Hudson. I showed him his new curtains, new sheets, new "Auburn" blanket...everything. Then Thursday came around. I was sad. I kept internally counting the times I would rock Hudson and put him down in his crib. Snuggle before nap and bedtime. But as I laid him down, my thoughts were, "he's getting big and my belly's getting bigger. A new bed will be wonderful...but can he really be this big!?!"

Today went so well...even better than expected. We've done the "big boy bed" thing on vacation, at the lake and at Mimi's, but this is permanent. He helped Mommy. He {especially} helped Daddy. He decorated. Naptime came...He slept!

btw...sorry for the delay in posts. motivation is slim these days not to mention starting Preschool, planning for Babe Boy #2, thinking of ANOTHER boy name, and getting the Big Boy Room ready {more to come on that soon}!

Anyway, a week {or so} ago Daddy had a terrific chance to play the Stadium course at TPC Sawgrass with his Dad and some friends...for FREE!! While he kicked butt on the course!!!, Hudson and I spent a couple of days at Mimi's house {my ma}! I wanted to finish up Hudson's new curtains and thought Mallory would be the perfect distraction for Hudson so I could sit down and get them done...not to mention getting some help from Mom! Much to my surprise, I actually finished the curtains AND remembered to ask about the Rocky Brook Rocket at the Monkey Park. {For those non-Opelikans, the Monkey Park really used to have Monkeys - hence, the name; they also have newly revived the miniature train that circles the park.} It is $1.00/person for 3 trips around. Hudson was super excited about getting on the train, until we got on the train. Typical. He finally warmed up on the second time around. After our 3 trips, we hit the playground. And when Ma and I had sweated enough, we headed home to play in the sprinkler!! As you can see, if it involves Mallory, a good time will be had!

Beach Pics...FINALLY!

Well, sort of!

Our Annual Beach Trip with my family was moved down the beach this year to Santa Rosa Beach! It was wonderful, and we were even able to hang out with some Atlanta friends, who own a condo in the place with stayed! Hudson loved the beach & sand this year and ventured in the ocean much more than I ever imagined! He loved jumping the waves in the "deep water" with Daddy! I enjoyed all of the yummy food...as I was hot {crazy baby hormones} and couldn't enjoy my favorite beach beverage {margaritas}! It's all worth it though. We, of course, headed to Red Bar for the crab cakes on Saturday! Spicy Noodle was up next followed by playing in the Seacrest Beach fountains and Ice Cream at Rosemary Beach's Sugar Shack!! We headed to Stinky's Fish Camp {a new one for us}! If you are in the area...GO to STINKY'S! It was terrific...mostly fried, but lightly and wonderfully done!! And don't pass up the GRITS!! Oh, what heaven! On our way out, we stopped by Summer Kitchen in Rosemary Beach for one of the best hamburgers!!

So, unfortunately, with the 500+ pictures taken, I have been so unmotivated to sort and upload! I finally updated Hudson's Baby Jelly Beans page...so if you are interested, pregnant momma is directing you here to check some of them out!! ENJOY!!

So Beasley was quite unsure about his new food bowl...however, after some research, we are glad we purchased the Brake-Fast Bowl. If anyone has a big dog and heard of "stomach flipping" {aka gastric dilatation/volvulus} or even seen "Marley & Me," you can understand the reason for this purchase. Beasley eats his food in 10 seconds flat and it was beginning to weigh on the hearts of his momma & daddy! He could've been a little freaked by the bowl but Day 1 and it was a success!!

BTW...if you're interested in purchasing one, I bought the LARGE {b/c there was no other choice} but it is perfect for Beasley's size {70 lb Golden Retriever}. MEDIUM would probably work too.

Our Trip to Tampa...or was it Orlando

Each year, we head to Tampa to visit my dad {aka Paw Paw Holley}. This year, Sister and fam weren't able to make it & Kevin's back was in no shape for playing golf so we scoped out a great deal on a hotel in Orlando! Paw Paw had to work Friday which meant family day at Sea World!! We had no idea when we booked the hotel that it literally backed up to the Sea World entrance! Short walk & we were in! Hudson loved all the animals & was mesmerized by the shows. He did say his favorites were the "baby dawfins!"

Saturday, Paw Paw treated us to DISNEY WORLD! I didn't think Hudson would get it, but he could barely contain himself from the second we walked into the gate! First stop was pretty intense, Buzz Lightyear! One little hand gripped my shorts...the other holding closely onto the gun!! Once done, he ran to each new ride then the Mickey's House to meet the One and Only! Hudson didn't disappoint...as with Aubie, once we got within arms length, he FREAKED! We still managed to meet Mickey AND Minnie...head hidden and all!

He loved all the boat rides, esp. the "Mickey Boats" {aka It's a Small World}. He squeezed in a late-afternoon nap which meant we were able to stay for dinner & the SpectroMagic Parade! Oh, I can't wait to take him back when he's older and can remember more, but even now, seeing Disney through those 2 1/2 year old eyes was beyond precious.

Mike has had this for 10 years, and unfortunately, they got some not-so-good news yesterday. I {and they} know God has a plan even if we can't see it. My Weekend {as a Mother of 2}

If only for a little while {like an hour}, but it was fun to have a little, tiny, miniscule, insy glimpse of what life would be like with another little one ~~and how my Little Man would respond~~! Tate was so sweet & Hudson was wonderful. He helped hold Tate's bottle, get a blanket and burp cloth & bounce his seat! He also thought it would be appropriate to sit at his head & ~~try to~~ put his feet on him which mommy was able to knock away just in time!

After our Parents-Of-Two experiment and the afternoon downpour, we headed out for some pressure washing!! Woo Hoo! Kevin power washed everything out back, & I was in charge of the front stoop & walkway! I'm proud to say, my ankles didn't look quite as "good" as my dear one's!

to A Day we go

This year we made a day trip of it...Hudson had a morning nap {what what} in the car & we arrived in Auburn just in time for lunch at ~~where else for Mr DeLine~~ Tenda Chick. Since we missed the morning activities ~~boo~~ at the practice fields, we made our way into Anders! What training Hudson has received from Momma...he cleaned them out with a new & first Auburn onesie for cousin Davis, a "white Aubie" shirt & TWO hats {$5 each I might add} for the man himself! Daddy even got a new tee to boot! Side note...Momma was none to happy about buying hats for the Little Man labeled "Youth!" Sad sad day in mommy-land! We made it into the game and wonderfulness ensued until 3rd quarter. Daddy spent most of 3rd quarter buying M&Ms while Mommy spent the 4th quarter in line for something...anything...and I'm still empty-handed ~~since Daddy was spotted dragging Little Screaming Crying Man and rolling his eyes~~. Momma decided to give it one more shot & head over to the band! That almost helped, but it was the field goal kick that was our saving grace! angels singing!!!

After the game, Hudson had a big time running around on the field but nothing could compare to taking his shoes off & running barefoot!!! We got lots of cute pics & Little Man is even smiling in them...who woulda thunk it?!?!

We even squeezed in some Mimi, Pop & Mallory time! Then on to Momma's favorite...Laredo for some din din! On the way out, we stopped by Chuck's for Sunday dinner!!

What a wonderful day...even the 20 minutes of tantrum was worth it! Personally I think a 20 min tantrum after only 1 1/2 nap in the morn was quite good! But oh how we miss Auburn...one day...one day we'll be back! Meeting at a football game, getting engaged & having our wedding pics at Samford Hall...we just love it. My only regret is not getting some Laredo salsa to bring home...oh, how I'm craving it right now!

Friday night we headed over to Aunt Kristin & Uncle Ryan's for a chance to meet the newest family addition...James "Davis" Hall! Born on his due date, April 14th, weighing in at 6 lb 15 oz & 19 inches long! He's a cutie, and I'm pretty sure I witnessed Hudson's first bit of jealousy. He just wasn't quite sure what to do with him! He was, however, obsessed with holding his hand!

More Easter Pics

We had a wonderful Easter...despite a rocky night. Hudson has come down with a really bad cough and was up until 12:30 Sat night. I was sure Easter church service, family brunch and an egg hunt were definitely off for Sunday. However, Hudson woke up {still with the cough} but in a great mood. We asked if he wanted to go to church & he shook his little head, Yes! He loves church & loves the girls in Wamba Land {nursery}! We even made it out the door 10 minutes early!!!!

Next was brunch at Chequers with Kevin's family {if you're ever in Atlanta on a Sunday, go to this brunch, YUMMMMMMMY}! The Easter Bunny was even there...Hudson immediately said "Scared" but wanted to follow him around the whole time too! After everyone had full bellies...we headed home to check out what the Easter Bunny brought us & to find some eggs! Hudson was definitely spoiled this year, but he was able to get a new Scooter!
I'm thinking next year Hudson won't be quite as spoiled with Aunt Kristin's little one coming...and coming tomorrow - Tues, 14th!!!!

I've been pondering what to make of this Easter season. I want those fun traditions and memories with Hudson, but I also want him to know why we celebrate this holiday...this ever important holiday. What can you tell a 2 year old so they understand. I, myself, have thought about and looked at the cross and those final hours of Jesus in a different way this year. I don't know if it was Andy's sermon last week, or if it is my need as a parent to make sure Hudson knows my Jesus, his Jesus and that his Jesus will be his friend forever. That is what I have focused on these past couple of days with Hudson. That Jesus came to live like we do then went to Heaven to be with God, so we can one day go to Heaven too. {Andy Stanley, our pastor, gave a powerful talk last Sunday...everyone should listen to it/watch it. Visit Buckhead Church messages and click on black "CD Cover" - it's called "The Final Hours." This may be one I listen to every year to remind myself of the magnitude of His gift to me!}

What a cute sight...Hudson has grown quite attached to "It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown"...which means we have watched it 3 nights in a row before bedtime routine! We've never had a problem brushing Hudson's teeth. He is very patient while I probably brush too much {but can you brush too much?}. Since entering our most recent "Daddy Phase," Daddy has made it known he doesn't feel his job is adequate enough in the teeth-brushing arena. I'm thinking ~~there are only like 20 teenie, tiny teeth~~ how hard can it be? Nevertheless, this weekend on a Target run, Daddy takes Hudson on a "Special Mission." Where do I find them? The toothbrush aisle!! Daddy is quite the toothbrush snob {Sonicare all the way} so he's picked out a few electric children's models for Hudson to choose from.
The Winner...GUM Electric Crayon Toothbrush...in orange, wait blue, wait orange, NO BLUE!!!
The Result...Hudson LOVES it and ~~I must admit~~ SO MUCH EASIER!!!! Hudson even thinks he's cool b/c his makes noise like Mommy's and Daddy's.

It's also been dubbed...THE WIGGLE TOOTHBRUSH. If you have a toddler, it is now on my list of "musts"...go get your own Wiggle Toothbrush {color to be determined later}.

I never thought having a step-dad would be so wonderful. We've definitely had our "moments" but I wouldn't trade him for the world! He's like a second dad & calls me {and Sister} his daughters! He's a very special fella & loves my family as his own...he's also pretty awesome to my Ma! So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOMMY!!! We hope it is wonderful & busy {since that's the way you like it}!!

Sunday was filled with church, brunch {at a wonderful new place, Paper Mill Grill - TRY IT!}, Lowe's and some yard work. What a success...we got most of our "ideas" done but Hudson & Kevin were left with some serious allergies!! Hopefully my boys are well soon so they can enjoy how pretty the yard looks again!!! {I hope to get some backyard pics up soon!}
